Canadian singer-songwriter Alanis Morissette’s 3rd studio album Jagged Little Pill was released on 13th June 1995. Jagged Little Pill wouldn’t have been possible had Morissette not met producer Glen Ballard. Morissette and Ballard co-authored the album in Los Angeles.
In 2018, the Jukebox Musical Jagged Little Pill inspired by the original studio album opened at the American Repertory Theater in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Despite losing shows due to the Covid-19 pandemic, Jagged Little Pill bagged 2 awards and 15 nominations at the 74th Tony Awards.

Heidi Blickenstaff as Mary Jane Healy
Blickenstaff was born and raised in Fresno, California. She began her career in musical theater with Good Company Players, where she played “Annie” in the eponymous musical. Blickenstaff is an alumnus of Duke University’s Department of Theater Studies and Roosevelt High School in Fresno, California.
She is well recognized for her role in the one-act musical [title of show]. In Jagged Little Pill, Blickenstaff plays the part of Mary Jane Healy.
Lauren Patten as Jo
The most well-known roles that Lauren Patten has played include Jo in the Broadway musical Jagged Little Pill and Officer Rachel Witten in the drama series Blue Bloods. Her work in Jagged Little Pill earned her the Tony Award for Best Featured Actress in a Musical.

Jagged Little Pill is one of the most successful Broadway musicals of the last few years. The soundtracks of this musical reflect the inner struggles of women (largely), that finds voice in Morissette’s youthful rock tracks. You Oughta Know is perhaps the most memorable track of this musical. This alt-rock track has charmed casual listeners and Broadyway aficionados alike.
The story revolves around Mary Jane and her workaholic husband Steve. While Mary has a dark history of opium addiction, her husband Steve is addicted to porn. Their two children — Frankie and Nick — exhibit opposing characteristics. While Frankie is an activist, Nick lacks emotional maturity. A sparkling NY Times review highlights the brilliance of the musical.
The pangs of suppressed sexuality is a central theme of the musical. Frankie, a black queer girl, does not get the support she demands from her mother. Mary Jane refuses to address Frankie’s partner Jo (who is non-binary) by her preferred name and pronouns.
